I study the use of trusts, domestic, international and offshore, to infringe and undermine other law, especially welfare states' tax-and-transfer systems. At other times trusts can be used to secure an asset base against menacing regimes. My work highlights how one part of the law can undermine other parts thereof, how law is designed and used in the interests of the wealthy, and how the same law can sometimes offer refuge from persecution.
